Since 2020 started, it’s been an absolute wreck as we all know. CVOID-19 really rocked everyone’s world by keeping millions at home and out of work, school, literally everything. Now that it is mid-July, we all want to have a great summer. However, we can’t really do that this year. I have some fun ways to make the most out of your summer… quarantined edition! Most of these ways have kept me from being bored.
- Online Courses are FANTASTIC!
As a recent graduate from college, you would think “Don’t you want to take some time off and not focus on school or learning in general?” Well… No. You can never really stop learning. Plus this is the perfect time to learn more about a skill or topic you have interest in! For me, I’m learning more about social media management. This is my dream career and I want to know as much as I can. You can find tons of courses and videos you can learn from! ( https://www.open.edu/openlearn/free-courses/full-catalogue – thank me later and tell me what courses you took!)
- Vision Boards
I’m not going to lie, I have been obsessed with Vision Boards lately. According to Google, a vision board is “a collage of images and words representing a person’s wishes or goals, intended to serve as inspiration or motivation.” Some say if you make a vision board, you’re manifesting your dreams and goals for your future. I tend to make vision boards through Photoshop or Pinterest! If you want a future blog about the process, definitely let me know!
- Blogging
Writing during the summer can help you keep busy and focus! It allows you to write about anything you possibly want. I love to blog more than writing a story just because I can put my own opinions on certain topics and just to see everyone else’s views! Blogging is great at any age. I highly recommend this if you love to just write in general, also it’s great to add to a portfolio as well!
- Spotify? We live for it.
Spotify is my top choice of passing by the time. I love creating new playlists for literally any mood. Not only can you listen to music on there but you can listen to hundreds and hundreds of podcasts. Lately, I’ve been listening to The Real Reel Podcast by Natalie Barbu, Call Her Daddy by Barstool Sports (literally hilarious), and Gen Z Girl by Abby Asselin. The best types of Spotify nights are the ones where you can mindlessly do any type of work and just have a podcast running. I am usually the one to be super distracted with background noise and have to have complete silence but I love it if I’m scheduling content to Instagram or editing photos for a website I’m creating, something to that effect.
- Family Time
I will have to say since I’ve been home from college since early-mid March, I’ve gotten a lot closer to my family – a little to close at times 😂 (I know my mother is probably reading this right now – she’ll agree). There have been nights where my mother and I are watching dateline, hysterically laughing at literally nothing during the commercials. Some nights my family and I will be eating dinner outside because it’s so beautiful out and we don’t want to miss out on perfect weather. Those are the best nights which are some of my favorite memories to look back on throughout the year when I miss summer.
- Organizing… the worst but it helps
The chore we literally all hate but secretly love. Organizing can help you keep your environment clean and helps you in the long run! I just went through my clothes back in March and I donated so much!! It’s so satisfying to see the progress from before and after – especially if you take photos. Even digital or a business/school organizing session, it can make you feel more motivated to finish any work you have by going and deleting any non-essential files, putting things in their correct folder, etc. However, if you’re not in the mood to deal for another 3 months, there are always videos you can watch that hopefully inspires you to organize. A great video to watch for this topic is one from Lavendaire called How to Be More Organized & Productive | 10 Habits for Life Organization. I’ll link it here: https://youtu.be/QZUQvIf301Y
- Painting, Dancing, Storytelling, Digitally Creating – All forms of art
This is the one way that has really boosted not only my productivity levels but my creative skills. I’ve been painting and digitally creating so much over these last few months. For me, it’s a good way to break apart my school/business hours at night with something I can mindless do and not put too much thought into. Even if you’re not the best at painting, it still feels good to literally spread the color around on the canvas with no real vision in mind. The best art is often not planned – shoutout to my art teachers for teaching me that.
- Getting Ready Just to Get Ready
My last tip to add some enjoyment to your summer during quarantine is getting ready just because. Yes, it’s a thing! I am so known for doing this, especially at 11 pm. However, I highly recommend doing this during the day, so you get that great lighting for those selfies! I love getting ready and experimenting with new makeup looks and hairstyles, even new outfit plans. Not only does it make me feel better about myself after days and days of being in various comfy clothes sets but it makes me feel more productive!
